July 3, 2018–Kevin Taylor, president of Plum Homes, Inc. has been inducted into the Home Builders Association of Mississippi Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was established in 1988 to honor men and women who have made significant and lasting contributions to housing in Mississippi, the building industry and Home Builders Association of Mississippi. Kevin has been in the construction industry for 38 years. He started in the retail end of the business in 1980 when he went to work selling building supplies for Bailey Lumber. He started in the construction end working for a commercial contractor and then as a construction superintendent for another Hall of Fame member, Carl Hamilton, and his company Hamilton and Loveless. Later, he worked as a superintendent for a contractor who specialized in high-end custom homes.
In 1991, he started Plum Homes, Inc. He credits longtime contractor Carl Legett and a friend, Dr. Rick Peden, (both now deceased) for encouraging him to go into business for himself. Legett wrote the letter recommending Kevin for his builder’s license.
Over the past 27 years, Plum Homes has built homes of all sizes, from starter homes to estates with a few offices and remodels.
After Hurricane Katrina, he rebuilt or repaired many homes, earning him the Southern Living Builder Program’s Golden Hammer Award. He was invited to participate in the prestigious Southern Living Custom Builder’s Program and was affiliated with the program for 13 years. Kevin has won 17 Best in Mississippi Awards, is a past Builder of the Year for the Home Builders Association of the Mississippi Coast and the Home Builders Association of Mississippi. He is active in the local Home Builders Association of the Mississippi Coast, serving twice as president and currently serves on the organization’s board of directors. He also serves on the Home Builders Association of Mississippi’s Board of Directors.
He and his wife, Teresa, have been married 37 years. They have two children and two grandchildren (with a third on the way.)
Kevin’s knowledge, creativity, focus on detail and personal attention to clients has made Plum Homes a premiere builder on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
“We are very proud to have one of our own selected for this great honor,” said Josh Workman, current president of the Home Builders Association of the Mississippi Coast. “He is a great leader and champion of the residential building industry.”
